'Cause I've met - and wrestled with - each of them personally.
Hi. I'm Megan Walrod.
I'm a storyteller. I love painting pictures with my words. I know the power of our words and our stories: the ones we tell ourselves and the ones we tell others.
Our words and our stories have the power to create or destroy; to empower or disempower.
As a copywriting and business coach, I help my clients use their words to market themselves and grow their businesses. I've supported clients in having $6 and 7-figure launches. I've written for multi-million dollar businesses and nonprofits.
Over the past decade I’ve heard thousands of stories that women tell themselves that shape their lives.
Two decades ago I had a big vision...
I dreamed of traveling the world and compiling stories of the women I met into books to share with the world.
But the vision felt so big:
Where would I go?
Who wanted to share their stories with me?
How would I afford it?
And who was I to do this?
So my dream sat, buried inside, waiting…
Fast forward to 2016...
when my mom’s death and my grief launched me on an inquiry, “What am I uniquely here to contribute?” I began seeing images of myself on the other side of the world, side by side with brown-skinned women and children, involved in their daily activities.
I didn’t know the details.
I didn’t know at the time how this would unearth my dream of two decades ago.
But I said YES anyway.
My YES was the beginning of a BIG adventure!
At the time I said YES, I didn’t know I’d end up living in Uganda for 6 months, volunteering with a non-profit and co-writing a book with the adolescent girls in their empowerment programs.
Along the way, I hit almost every single one of those speed bumps: the doubt and insecurities (Were the stories book-worthy?); questioning myself (Who was I to write this book?); feeling overwhelmed (WTF now?); afraid I’d be judged (I mean, I did a fundraiser and invited my community to donate to our project!); and missing key pieces of information (How do we choose a publisher? A printer? Can a non-profit have their book on Amazon?).
Yet the lone wolf thing?
This time, I did it differently.
In addition to continuing to listen and let my YES guide me, I also got a ton of support every step of the way. I knew that I didn’t have to do it alone, and that changed everything.
I also know that these speed bumps that arise don’t have to stop us. They’re only as powerful as we make them.
I now know, with every cell of my being, that I can create anything.
Our book of girls' stories is now published.
It’s been distributed to people around the world, been featured in podcasts and even on the front page of the newspaper. It’s already raised thousands of dollars for the non-profit, which will support the education of more girls.
This book is a doorway of possibility that is continuing to reveal to me the magic that occurs when we LIVE OUR YES.
Following through on my dream has contributed more to my own life and to others’ lives than I could have ever imagined.
