Let’s just name it, shall we?
Sales can suck.
Sales can bring up all of our stuff…
- “Will people want what I have to offer?”
- “Will they see the value of it?”
- “Will they call me a fraud?”
- “Are they right? Am I a fraud?”
We fear rejection.
We doubt ourselves.
We compare ourselves to others and never seem to measure up.
This is the sucky side of sales.
But there is another side of sales!
A beautiful side…
Sales can be a doorway into seeing and being even more of your greatness.
Sales can be an act of sacred service where you show up, share your gifts, and create the income and the impact you desire.
Sales can be the fast track to your growth.
How do you get out of the sucky side of sales and over to the other side?
First: Know the terrain.
We stay in our comfort zone because it’s safe and familiar. Sales take us out of our comfort zone.
At the edge of our comfort zone are all those voices just waiting for us to try and pass. They have been designed to keep us IN our comfort zones. They are REALLY GOOD at what they do.
“Who do you think you are? Where do you think you’re going? Nobody wants what you have to offer. Get back in there. You’re not all that. You’re just going to make a fool of yourself. Turn around and go back now before you get yourself in trouble.”
When you recognize the terrain – and these voices – for what they are (safety mechanisms whose role it is to keep you safe and small) you don’t take them as a sign that something is wrong or bad.
Second: Stand up for yourself.
Instead of listening to those voices and believing them, stand up for yourself. Say to them, “Oh, I see you. I know you. I recognize you. And I’m not going to let you stop me anymore.”
Be more committed to sharing your gifts with the world than you are to buying the lies that these voices tell you.
Third: Keep on going past the edge of your comfort zone.
That’s right… keep on going. Stand up for yourself and keep on moving beyond those voices. This will take you beyond the edge of your comfort zone and into wild new territory where you can share and shine your gifts more brightly.
This is where sales can be an act of love.
This is where you can contribute even more to the change you wish to see in the world.
Sales can create a bridge between your gifts and other people’s biggest needs and desires.
But in order to be a bridge for other people you first have to be a bridge for yourself. It is up to YOU to travel the territory from the sucky side of sales, beyond those inner voices and doubts to get to the other side of sales.
Like anything in life, it’s a “choose your own adventure.”
What will you choose?
To avoid the sucky side of sales and stay small, hiding your gifts away just for a select few?
Or will you choose to go right into that sucky side and beyond it, using it to fast track your growth?
Sales won’t always suck.
At least, they don’t have to.
Not when you use them as a bridge to go beyond your comfort zone and discover the vast potential and possibilities that are available to you on the other side.
Here’s to the sacredness of sales!
